Q: What is the difference between Avalide and Diovan?
My insurance will only pay for Diovan, yet the doctor prescribed Avalide. What is the difference?

A: They are both Cardio products

Avalide is Irbesartan + Hydrochlorothiazide while
Diovan is Valsartan

Both are A2rBs or angiotensin II receptor blockers
(drugs usually ending in “sartans”)

The doctors are usually updated on the latest therapy in dealing with heart diseases in which the trend nowadays is using A2rBs in combination with diuretics like Hydrochlorothiazide.

Tell your doctor you are considering that your insurance pay for Diovan to give you a new course of therapy since both of them A2rBs.

Q: Does Avalide have a generic or something equivalent without the hydrochlorothiazide?
so it could be added to create an equivalent?

A: Go to the FDA’s Drug Orange Book. That will help you crosswalk brand name drugs with generic options. It is the only FDA “official” source.

Of course, your doctor or pharmacist will have to weigh in as well — it isn’t a call you can make on your own.

Once you ID a generic option, you can use a search engine like the link below to find the cheapest option near you.

the problem was that the kidney function test where off mostily high /could i had been dehydrated and the diurectic effect the results

300/12.5

A: Avalide is a combo drug: irbesartan and HCTZ. You are getting the best treatment right now. HCTZ is the first line in treating hypertension. It is a diuretic but not a strong one. This drug reduces the amount of stress on your peripheral arteries thus reducing the complications of high blood pressure.

Irbesartan is a class of drug that blocks a chemical that stops your body from losing salt in the urine and constricting your arteries. Salt+water adds volume to your blood, and the more volume in your body(a closed space), the higher your blood pressure.

Both of them work together to keep blood pressure low by either releasing salt or lowering the tension on your arteries.

Q: How do you pronounce avalide?
How do you pronounce avalide???

A: av (rhymes with have), ah, lide (rhymes with tide)

Q: anyone taking Avalide 300 mg 25mg hydrochlorothiazide?
Do you have muscle pain in upper arms?
left arm more so than right arm.

A: this is a not uncommon phenomena. you need to check your routine labs.

Q: Is Lisinopril and Avalide the same drug?

A: I hope not. Lisinopril costs $4 at Wal Mart and Avalide is $$$$. Both are ACE Inhibitors but my Avalide has a dueretic in it and is suppose to be a “new generation” ACE inhibitor. Lisinopril is the same as Zestril I beleive and Zestril has no dueretic in it. Zestoretic does. Both control hypertension well in my experience. Avalide is suppose to cut down on side affects like ACE cough according to my old Doc. IF they were the same then my insurance would not pay for Avalide because Lisinopril is a generic.

The parmacist may know something but Lisinopril is a generic of Zestril. I buy both of them every month. Avalide for me as prescribed and Lisinopril for my wife as prescribed. Lisinopril is $4 at Wal Mart and they sell generics for $4 see my link and give me the 10 points. They both work by relaxing blood vessels. Lisinopril ( brand name zestril) works to inhibit an enzyme in the muscles around blood vessels. Avalide works on a hormone and ends up doing the same thing. Avalide is hazardous to the human fetus. Avalide also makes you produce more urine and thus expel more water and salt.

Q: I TAKE AVALIDE FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, CAN I TAKE DIET PILLS?

A: No. Diet pills are bad always.

I am on avalide 300/25 and have recently begun taking greens+. I am feeling very bad and it has been 4 days. Am going to stop , has anyone had a bad interaction with this combo, or should I look elsewhhere for the culprit of my symptoms?

A: stop doing the stuff if it’s making you feel bad

Q: could i take lispinopril and aHCTZ and it do the same as avalide?

A: consult with your dr for this answer..
i know avalide is expensive i have to pay 33 dollars a month for mine with insurance paying 1/2 the cost hopefully in the next couple of years they will come out with a generic form of it then it will only cost me $5 a month

Q: Does Avalide or Avapeo have a generic?

A: Its a combination of irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide.

Q: Does the med atacand contain a diuretic?
I have been on Avalide; but now the pharmacy wants me to change over to atacand. I need the diuretic as I take a pretty heavy doese of potasssium.

A: yes, it contains hydrochlorothiazide, which is a diuretic.

Q: Is hoodia dangerous for people with high blood pressure?
I have high blood pressure and need to loose about 40 lbs. The only thing that seem to help me is hoodia but I don’t know if it’s okay to use with avalide which I use for my blood pressure.

A: yes, it can seriously damage your circulatory system

Q: Does Avalide have a generic?

A: not yet. somewhere on the internet you may be able to find an expected date for it to go generic, but you would just have to hunt for that website.

Q: Will any of the following supplements interact badly with Avalide: Cinnamon, leg veins, cholest Off, relacore

A: relacore
For hypertension, may I recommend: red clover, burdock root, garlic. This is a natural herbal remedy that cleanses the blood.
I used to have hypertension myself. regularly 142/89
I am now staying at 112/74.
I only used this for a short time and here I am a year later still healthy. Results are almost immediate within days to weeks. With a healthy diet and exercise, you can completely cure this problem this way.

Q: Hubby is on Vancomycin- can dosing too fast cause renal failure?
Hes taking it for a staff infection in his foot. He also has rheumatoid arthritis and was on Enbrel prior to infection and antibiotic. Hes got high blood pressure. He was taking Toprol 50 mg a day and Avalide 150 mg a day for that. They changed his IV at home from 1 gram twice a day to 2 grams once a day. No one ever told him to infuse slower! So in the first 15 min he got extremely itchy and rash all over – redmans syndrome. About 8 hours later we took him to the ER because he had a fever of 102. Turns out he was in full renal failure. I read that blood pressure med plus vanco and serious injury or illness can cause renal faliure. What I want to know is because he infused to fast err on part of the Home Health agency, did that cause him to go into renal failure?

A: Vancomycin can lead to renal failure if the levels get too high. His renal function should have been checked before starting vancomycin treatment. I assume the doses were adjusted to account for a change in his renal function. Infusing the vancomycin too fast would not lead to renal failure itself. Vancomycin could have contributed to the renal failure if his kidney function worsened for some reason causing the vancomycin level in his blood to elevate to high- (this would happen because his kidneys were not removing it from his blood as quickly as before, not from infusing it too fast. It would take a few doses to get it that high.) Then the extra high vancomycin blood levels could contribute.

There are some blood pressure medications that can cause decreased renal function. The ACE inhibitors like lisinopril, enalapril, etc can decrease kidney function which could lead to higher vancomycin levels, which could further contribut to the renal failure. This type of renal failure is usually reversible after the medications causing the failure are removed.

I hope that made sense- It sounded redundant to me but is is difficult to explain simply in a couple of paragraphs.
