Q: the next best thing to avalide blood pressure medicine?
my mother is on avalide but the cost is outrageous she is wanting to find a cheaper bp medicine that works just as well or the next best thing to what she is already on which is avalide…ive looked it up and cant find anything was wondering if anyone could help me find the next best thing to what she is already on thanki you

A: The problem is, most of what Tony said hasn’t been demonstrated to work very effectively. Hypertension is generally managed with a combination of drugs. You can’t just substitute it with random things. Effective hypertension management is very important. Your mother needs to continue with the medication that has been prescribed to her.

In addition to medication, your mum should be following a healthy diet and exercise plan. We should all be doing this regardless.

Q: what is the best medicine for high blood presure?
I have norvasc 10mg, lisinopril 20mg, atenolol 50mg, avalide 300/12.5mg

A: The best medication is the one that works to keep your BP in normal ranges. Your doctor would be the one to determine that. If you want to do away with BP meds, you need to exercise, lose weight and eat healthier.

Q: OK, I take about 5 or 6 medicines a day, for high blood pressure, anxiety attacks, please read on?
panic attacks, fast heart beats, for my stomach and for depression. I take Toprol XL, Tiazac 420, lansoprazole 30 mg, Effexor XR 75, Avalide 150/12.5 and Xanax 0.5mg.
Now my question is, I have been to my main Doctor, and he has referred me to gastroenterologist, to heart specialist, to every Doctor he can think of. To this day, I still am not feeling up to part.
Any suggestions on maybe getting rid of some of these medicines and going herbal or something.
I am really sick and tired of taking all these medicines and still not feeling well. Can someone please give me an honest answer on what else to do. I am depressed most times, I really do not like to go out of the house, unless I have to. My friends are used to this and come and visit me. So does my family, but there surely has to be something else that I can do.
Please only answers that will help me. And no Iam not crazy, I am very intelligent and very friendly most of the time(the friendly part)
I get up in the morning like a normal person, take my shower get dressed and take my daughter to school. I stay home dressed all day long but go no where. At th time to pick up my daughter i do, buy what I have to and rush home again.
No alcohol, and yes I can walk. As a matter of fact I have 2 great wonderful dogs.

A: Sounds like you need a good, healthy diet and a little tuning up. Lose weight if you are overweight. Keep up or even increase the exercise. Increase the vegetable intake, especially antioxidants. Add some tomatoes and olive oil to your daily routine for the BP. Avoid, at all costs, junk food. Stick with fresh vegetables and whole grains. For panic attacks/depression, add omega 3 (fish oil) and 5-HTP (a precursor to seratonin… a neurotransmitter that helps the brain) to your daily routine. Cut back, or cut out the meat and dairy products. Eat to live, don’t live to eat. Work toward getting off the drugs and on to some supplements. Don’t trust doctors… I found out the hard way that they don’t know how to heal, they just throw prescriptions at you hoping you’ll pay your bill and go away. Go to my diabetes info webpage and explore the links I provide. http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/Type_II_Diabetes.html

Now, as far as the psychological aspect is concerned, you need to become a master of cognitive therapy as I have. This will help you overcome adverse circumstances of all sorts including your panic attacks (which is what’s causing the fast heartbeats etc.) Read my “Antidepressant That Works” page and explore the links I provide there. You will learn a whole new way of thinking that will open up all kinds of good feelings for you. This is yet another tried and true method. It got me out of suicidal depression. The only medication I take today is a little bit of Metformin for the diabetes. I am so much happier and healthier today than I was just two years ago (I almost died), that I can’t begin to tell you. I’m not going to blow smoke up your dress, this is hard work. It’s going to take some patience, diligence, and time. But the benefit of feeling really good and getting off the pharmaceuticals, will more than make up for the weeks of effort. Here’s the link:

Most of all, learn as much as you can about alternative healing. You can’t know too much about this stuff. Here’s a couple of good places to start:

Q: Whats up with my blood pressure?
I am 18 and have high blood pressure. I believe stage 2 hypertension. I take 50mg Metoprolol and 150/12.5mg of Avalide. The Metoprolol I have been taking for a couple of months and am just on my second week of Avalide. I know that it can take two to four weeks for a medicine to take full effect. I take my blood pressure usally after moving around to see how high it gets which it really shouldn’t get very high. Last night after driving around for a while and moving around a bit I checked my blood pressure and it was 141/60 on my left arm. Took it on my right arm about 10 secs later and 140/60. About 30 secs later I took it again on my left arm and it went down to 117/50. I know this is something that should really be discussed with my cardiologist, but has anyone else experianced something similar? The monitor is pretty accurate. Thanks in advance.
I forgot to mention that I had just gotten home put the cuff on while standing up then sat on my couch and turned on the machine. So when my BP was 117/50 I had been sitting for a good minute or two.
And when it was 141/60 I had just sat down. Haha sorry.
Yes I was overweight for a couple of years and hate horribly with no exercise. I have lost 50lbs so far and 20lbs to go. I have improved my diet too and exercising now.

A: i am not sure there is anything wrong or unusual. the upper number should vary 20-25 points with the lower one varying only about 10 points and the values can change quickly. i wouldn’t worry about it. i think the difference between the two numbers is a bit higher than usual and i would ask the dr. about that. otherwise i don’t see a problem
